What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a popular, minimally-invasive procedure used to remove dead skin cells, giving skin a renewed texture and tone by revealing the healthier cells underneath. It's great for improving the appearance of sun-damaged and wrinkled skin. Your issues with other skin-related conditions, such as scarring, age spots, acne, and melasma, are also addressed by this treatment.

Reminders for Before and After Treatment

Microdermabrasion is generally believed to be safe for most skin types and colors. However, if you have any concerns, make sure to raise them to your doctor or skin care professional. Existing medical conditions and past procedures and surgeries might be a factor in how suited you are for the treatment.

A week prior to the treatment, you will be asked to steer clear of tanning salons, the bright and warm outdoors, and waxing salons. And three days before undergoing the procedure, you should avoid exfoliating or using masks.

Right before the procedure starts, your face should be thoroughly cleansed and free of any make-up. The procedure requires basically little to no recovery time, so you can get back to your regular routines almost immediately after treatment. Make it a point to hydrate your skin using light and gentle skin care products and wear sunscreen. Topical acne treatments should be avoided for at least 24 hours after undergoing the procedure.

Here's How Microdermabrasion Works

1. The procedure, which usually takes about an hour to complete, will be performed by a licensed skin care professional from Le Futur Medical Spa. Depending on factors that have to do with your health status, the professional may or may not be supervised by a healthcare specialist.

2. As you are seated in a reclining chair, the skin care professional will be spraying off the tiny particles on your skin's outer layer using a handheld device. This is to ensure that the targeted areas are perfectly prepped for treatment.

3. Sunscreen and moisturizer are applied to the skin immediately after the procedure.

There are a variety of ways to go about the treatment depending on the type of method or device being used. There's the diamond-tip handpiece, the crystal-emitting handpiece used in crystal microdermabrasion, and hydradermabrasion.

What to Expect After Getting the Treatment

As is typical of minimally-invasive procedures, you can expect little to no downtime. You should be able to get back to your normal routines right after the treatment concludes. Results will be noticeable immediately after the procedure.
